Holiday gift ideas and shopping series. Welcome the newest artist on the blog, Jim Jenkins of Jim Jenkins Designs. He handcrafts these beautiful and unique jewelry boxes. Remember to go to his shop and check out his fabulous designs and purchase one for yourself or someone else special.According to Jim Jenkin Designs Etsy Shop, he states, "Everything you see here is designed and constructed by myself (with some help in the sanding and finishing portion by my wife). I try to come up with unique designs for each of the boxes; sometimes staring at the wood for an hour trying to come up with a design, other times the design just jumps out at me! I also create custom pieces, so if you have an idea in mind, feel free to contact me about it."
Octavian
Octavian is a "revisit" to a style that I've done in the past that was very popular. I've constructed this one out of black walnut, and added white oak handles and trim to give it a unique design all it's own. The flocking is a rich sapphire blue (love that word, "flocking"! "What did you do today?" "Oh, I was out in my shop flocking!").
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb is a box I had fun creating and naming. I designed this box out of Black Walnut, with Poplar handles, and a nice light blue flocking.
Gizmo
This is a fun box that I've created out of White Oak with Black Walnut handles, and I've flocked it with a nice royal blue "flitter". Flitter is a combination of flocking and glitter, in case you didn't know!
Heather
This box I've created out of a wonderful Black Walnut with Purpleheart handles, and I've flocked Heather with a HOT red flocking.
This is a wonderful box that I've created out of white oak with eucalyptus handles. I've flocked the inside with a black product called "flitter", which is a combination of glitter and flocking.
Gadget is a fun box that I've created out of black walnut, with white oak handles and a bird's eye maple base, and I've flocked it with a fun black "flitter."
Uriah
I like the surprises I get when I make a striped box. I never know exactly how it's going to look after I cut out the design. Uriah is one that I've created out of Black Walnut and White Oak, with White Oak handles. I've flock the box with a very attractive light blue. It was only after I had finished the box did I discover that I actually gave Uriah a sad face!
Adam
Adam is a simple yet enticing box I've created out of black walnut with white oak handles, and purple flocking.
Lindsey
Lindsey is another of my "Yin Yang" style boxes that I've created out of three different types of wood to make a nice, unique look. The outside of the box is made out of Black Walnut and for the drawer fronts I've used Bird's Eye Maple. I've also used Bird's Eye Maple for the supports that hold the upper box, and the base is made out of Black Walnut. The handles I've created out of Purpleheart. I've also flocked Lindsey with a wonderful emerald green flocking.
Polaris
Polaris is a unique box that I've designed out of stripes of black walnut and white oak. I've also added white oak handles, and I've flocked the box with a nice black "flitter". Flitter is a combination of flocking and glitter, and in this case it is black flocking with silver glitter.
McCain
This box I named in honor of one of our presidential candidates. Now I won't say whether or not I named this box McCain to honor the candidate that I'm supporting, or because it reflects what I think of the candidate. You decide! McCain is created out of Black Walnut with Ash handles, and is flocked with a true red flocking.
Philip
Philip has got to be the heaviest box that I've created to date. While I haven't weighed him yet, I'm guessing that he comes in around 10 lbs or so. It's also a HUGH box! I've created him out of black walnut, with white oak drawer fronts and purpleheart handles. All very heavy woods. I've also flocked him with a wonderful cardinal red flocking that goes quite well with the purpleheart handles.
